Tonner Convention, 2008!!!

All our seminars this year will be free of charge. No tickets are needed. Times and rooms will be detailed on the agenda you will receive at registration.

Our first two seminars will be given by Margaret Leahy.

Margaret Leahy has been a sculptor for over 20 years and has been working in the toy industry for over 14 years. She has sculpted countless dolls for Mattel, Playmates, Jakk’s Pacific, MGA Entertainment and The Disneystore. Some of her major works include The Bratz, Mattel’s Maleficent, Evil Queen and Ursulla, and her most recent works of Disney’s Princess Toddlers and Babies currently found at the Disneystore. She’s recently been commissioned to resculpt all of the Disney Princesses, High School Musical and Hannah Montana dolls to be released to the Disneystore shelves in Fall and Holiday of this year.

Seminar 1 - Doll Design for the Mass Market

You will be taken through a step by step process of mass market doll design in a workshop type setting. Starting with a blank doll you will learn the process

of concept design, concept sketching, and fashion design. After that you will move onto the more practical aspects of swatch election, hair, face, sculpting and package design and finally learn the ins and outs of factory tooling, production and the dreaded cost reducing process!

Seminar 2 - Replacing and Adding Real Doll Eyes

This seminar will involve a demonstration and instruction on replacing old doll eyes and adding real eyes to dolls with painted eyes. While many doll heads are made differently, there are a few techniques that can work across the board so you can learn to do this process yourself. Instruction will include how to safely remove your doll’s head, remove and replace old eyes or cut new sockets to add new ones. We’ll also discuss the many different kinds of eyes available on the market and where to buy them.

Our Third Seminar will be a company presentation. How a doll goes from conception to completion.

The Fourth Seminar will be something vey special and will be announced on the agenda at registration.
